It's the beginning of the end...

Today marks the close of the Fall 2010 semester. I leave for Greece in three weeks.

A couple of weeks ago, I decided to create a blog where I could document my experience studying abroad. I'll try to write every day, touching on everything from what I'm learning in class, excursions to the food, beautiful dark Greek men...and I'll also post pictures as well. I figured it would be easier for me to keep in touch with you all while I'm away by simply blogging, rather than by emailing or Facebooking each of you individually.

Although this won't be my first time studying abroad for Winter Session (I studied abroad in Martinique my freshman year if you all remember. After six weeks of sunbathing and zouking, I returned from Martinique practically a different race). However, this study abroad experience will be quite different because I will actually be taking classes within my major- Ancient Greek & Roman Studies. For the first time, I will set foot in the places where all of my classics professors have gone to study, dig, learn, live and breathe the remnants of an ancient culture. I've only seen these places in my textbooks and in slideshows during lecture. It still hasn't quite set in yet.

As you all know, I've had an...interesting...semester this year, and I know some of you are concerned about me being so far away for an entire month. But I have to tell you how excited I am and how long I have been dreaming about this. This is the one thing that I have been looking forward to for months, and at times it felt like the only thing I had to look forward to. This will be a change of pace, environment, people. Everything will be new and exciting, exotic and different, and I think that this will be exactly what I need. I fully understand that running away to a different country won't solve the problems I have in this one BUT maybe this will allow me some time to unwind, refresh and be ready for the Spring semester.

Nevertheless, these are the reasons why I wanted to blog about my time in Greece. I want to share this with you all and I want you all to know that I will be OK. It's gonna be a blast, and how could it not? It's Greece, after all ;)
